There is an increasing need for HE institutes to disseminate their cutting-edge research and to show how their research projects and funding are being utilised. At Slate and Mortar, we have extensive experience of producing films with a variety of functions and applications that highlight the importance and impact of specific research projects.

The production process is different for each research film that we produce, so from the outset, we’ll work with you to define your key messages and outcomes and help determine whether your research project has more than one audience, and whether separate edits (with a different targeted message) is appropriate.

Research films usually require a greater level of early pre-production, so it is imperative that we fully understand your project. We have dedicated script-writers and account managers with extensive experience in writing and producing content for research journals and online news outlets, so we’ll work closely with you to create a script that’s not just technically accurate but also utilises the latest contemporary approaches in video research communications.

Some videos may require just one filming day, others may need two or more across a number of locations. Either way, we work with you to ensure that the content is cost effective and makes the best use of your budget.

Research impact films are often suited towards the use of motion graphics as this allows complex information to be distilled into an easier to digest format. In some cases, a research film may even be 100% motion graphics or indeed a mix of both motion graphics and filmed footage.
